Yep,
I just love it when the patristic thinkers of yesterday and the liberationist/postcolonial thinkers of today line up in agreement. Just make for a beautiful masterpiece.
Unfortunately the inference can be drawn from your argument that the modern heresy has any sort of roots in antiquity – which it certainly doesn’t. Indeed I don’t think that the ‘fiery one’ or any of the early Fathers could ever have imagined all the nutty sects and interpretations that have sprouted up in the New World. Cheerleaders for Christ is my favorite but anything goes I guess …
Unfortunately Stephan, you mistake the point of my post with the title. No, the prosperity gospellers of today do not rely on ancient heresies. What I am saying is that using the Gospel in the name of greed is nothing new.
I don’t know about that, Stephan. I don’t think Rodney ever meant to say that the current heresy had roots there, just that Ignatius easily condemned making merchandise of Christ, which so many do today. Not just with the prosperity gospel either.
Sorry I was just joking around. I guess we both were.
