What in the world is this mess? :-p
I’m sorry if Dispensationalism 101 was closed, Rob.
:p
have a great semester buddy
You have a good one, too, Mike.
You have selected classes that I also would love to enroll in. Enjoy your semester.
Thank you, CJ, and I hope you have a good semester as well.
Morning Rod
This is great ! I know you will do well…I hope that you will write about all your courses especially this one…
Hebrew Bible 90970- Special Topics: Postcolonial Biblical Interpretation
Have a great weekend!
YLG,
You have a great weekend too.
Thanks Ron.
This fall is my last semester to complete my doctoral coursework. I’m taking this “one” required course starting next monday.
Congrats CJ,
I hope to hear from your work on your dissertation soon.
My goal is to finish the ThM in May and possibly take a break for a year and a half before entering a PhD program.
Thanks Rod.
Hi Rod
First forgive my ignorance, and not checking out what the topic/subject of Postcolonial biblical interpretation was… Course # 2… My mind was stuck on something else…
I thought that you were going to study Hebrew OT scriptures-Pre colonial or Western thought….Sorry about that…
Just a question…Are you somewhat into liberation theology???
YLG,
That is actually a great question.
I read Liberation theology and am open to the voices of scholars who are liberationist. At the American Academy of Religion, I felt most comfortable with the Liberationist group than anywhere else, even though I dissent in terms of political preferences (I do not adhere to marxism, just using marxist criticisms). I do have my criticisms of LT, like everyone else does, but then again, there is criticism for every theology from my point of view.
Truth and Peace,
Rod
Hey Rod
Thank you for answering…Yes i agree there is criticism for every theology…My problem is with Dispensational theology attached to a particular form of eschatology. It is harmful to the well being of the souls of a particular people…
Anyway i will just keep it simple and study (not formally) God’s corporate election (by way of the promise) of All of the children of Adam and Eve…You know freedom from sin-to liberty in Christ Jesus…
If you have any thoughts on where i should begin-i would love to hear them…
Thanks Rod
YLG,
I will get back to you, as I did the last time. I desperately need to study the doctrine of corporate election. And I do have my issues with Dispensationalism too.
Truth and Peace,
Rod
Rod, on July 17th, 2009 at 12:11 pm Said:
Jared,
Election and predestination in Arminianism occurs corporately. We are corporately elected as the Church, chosen in Christ. Predestination is not about us, or God choosing us as individuals, but choosing us in, through, and according to the image of God’s Son. That’s Romans 8 and Ephesians 1. Calvinists just focus on the words “predestine” and “elect” but election in Scripture happens through a person, Jesus Christ, the Messiah.
I agree with your statement above Rod…
Two more questions: you can answer them later on…
1. I did not think that your were Trinitarian… Do you hold to some form of it?
2. Who do you believe the ” He ” is who confirms the Covenant in Daniel 9:27 KJV?
Nite/morning Rod…
Hey YLG,
Just to warn you, Jared has been arguing back and forth with me on corporate election for over two years. hahahahaah!
1. YLG,
I am trinitarian, radically so. But, my views, as other posts have hinted are more in line with the Eastern Orthodox tradition.
2. Verse 27 is referring to the ‘messiah’ in verse 26. In context, the “messiah” is a false “annointed one”, he causes the great abomination in the temple. Personally, well, I suspect it is a reference to Titus’s future squashing of the Jewish rebellion against Rome, but I am not that certain. But Daniel does seem to have his worst reaction in his vision to the Roman Empire which were symbolized by the beast with the iron teeth [Daniel 7:8, 28].
Afternoon Rod…
Your a Trinitarian and passionately so…That’s cool…I am no longer a Trinitarian (since February 2009)… Nonetheless,Jesus is God manifested in the flesh and the fullness of the Godhood dwells him bodily…I believe that Jesus has only one nature-that is nature of God his Father who sent him… Jesus is God!
The Holy Spirit,i believe-according to the scriptures is the Spirit of God and the Spirit of Christ…So he is not a distinct person or a third member of a trinity (in my opinion)…
I am NOT a Oneness believer (Jesus Only)…I do NOT believe that God revealed himself in Modes or Manifestations-As the Father,As the Son and as the Holy Spirit…
I am NOT a Messianic believer or convert to Judaism,or into the Hebrew roots movement…I am an Ex Independent fundamental Baptist..I have ” not hold ” a partial Preterist view of Matthew 24 and parts of the book of Revelation, etc etc… I am A-millennial,yet i do share the hopes of Post-mills,of a huge conversion of souls (mainly Jews/Israelis) before the Lord returns…
I do believe that Jesus is the “He” who confirms/ strengthens the Covenant in Daniel 9:27 KJV… not a false Messiah or some anti-christ coming to make a treaty with unbelieving Israel-after the so called pre-trib rapture…
One reason tho,not the main-is that Daniel does not use the word ” league” as he did in 11:23… Moreover all the references to that passage,9:27 points to Jesus as the one who confirm(ed) the Covenant…
I am KJVO.However,i no longer argue for it’s use…I do NOT believe that the KJV is God’s inerrant word in English.I think that is nonesense,to say the least…
I am not here to argue any position- i think that the time is too short for that… I like to learn and discuss only… I am looking forward to what you have to say about the corporate election of the church-before the foundation of the world…
I like your blog a lot and wanted to share with you some of the things that i believe…In the main,i wanted to know where you stood on these things..I like your blog, Rod,especially this post… ” In the beginning was the Torah”… It was absolutely outstanding !!!
Have a great evening…
YLG,
I hope that this blog helps you to critically engage your views and help you articulate them.
Truth and Peace,
Rod
Good morning Rod…
I hope as well…Have a great day…
